SHONI WILKINSON
Founder & Creative Director

"The Alt Met rose out of a personal frustration wherein I knew that not only was I capable of designing for an event like that, but that the event itself could serve a greater purpose. Instead of being merely spectacle for its own sake, the Alt Met could shine a light where light is sorely needed - on incredible people and the important messages they have."

Shoni is a theatrical costume designer and maker with over a decade spent in the industry. Her work has been seen on the BBC, in London's West End and on the red carpet. She describes her work as "storytelling in excess" and insists "I'm all about layers and symbology - for me design is all in the detail".

Her debut avant-garde collection 'The Art of Queening' - an exploration of the strength of women past and present -was inspired by historical figures and the issues faced by women for over 500 years. It combined historical fashion with contemporary haute couture and was premiered in 2022 at York Fashion Week.

As the founding member of The Alt Met and the driving force behind the brand's creative vision Shoni intends to work closely with both designers and guests to ensure each individuals message is communicated clearly, respectfully and powerfully.
